Human Rights - Total S.A.

Total adopts Day 15 of Ethics Month by exploring why human rights are important to its business.

At Total, Human Rights is one of our priority business principles. We have 3 focal areas which are relevant to our activities: Human Rights in the workplace, Impact on local communities and Security.

We have been progressing in these areas through training and awareness raising issuing specific guides and policies, putting in place a dedicated organization and conducting assessments in our subsidiaries with external partners such as GoodCorporation and the Danish Institute.

This year we decided to go a step further and issue a briefing paper on our progress to date becoming the first oil and gas company to do so. Total’s Human Rights Briefing Paper is based on the UN Guiding Principles Reporting Framework (published in February 2015). In line with this framework we identified 6 salient issues and explained how we manage them.

Find out more in this video with Philip Jordan, Chairman of the Ethics Committee and Adebola Ogunlade, lawyer in our Human Rights Department.
