Emmanuel joined L’ORÉAL in 1999 as Group General Counsel for Human Resources. In 2007, he created the Office of the Group Chief Ethics Officer at L’ORÉAL. L’OREAL is the world’s leading cosmetic group with €25,3 billion of sales and more than 82,000 employees operating in 140 countries. Before joining L’ORÉAL, Emmanuel was admitted to the Paris Bar in 1988 and practiced as a corporate and tax attorney at Debevoise & Plimpton in Paris and New York. He holds a Master of Laws from U. of Chicago Law School and law degrees from Paris I (Panthéon-Sorbonne) and Paris II (Assas). In 1988, he was the Lavoisier laureate of the French Ministry for Foreign Affairs. From 2007 to 2012, he was on the Board of the Ethics & Compliance Officer Association in the United States and is on the Board of the Cercle Ethique des Affaires in France since 2011. He is a Fellow of the Ethics Resource Center (Washington), Vice-President of the Global Council on Business Conduct (New York), and sits on the Ethics Committee of AFD - the French Agency for Development (Paris) and of IFA - the French Institute of Directors (Paris). Emmanuel represents L’ORÉAL in a number of international organizations including UN Global Compact, UN Women, Institute of Business Ethics (London), ICC Commission on Corruption. In 2012 and 2014, he was recognized by the Ethisphere Institute as a "Top Ethics & Compliance Officer”. In 2015, he was awarded the Carol R. Marshall Award for Innovation in Corporate Ethics from the Ethics & Compliance Initiative (ECI).
