Business Ethics Network (BEN) meeting

IBE and other research shows that fear of retaliation remains one of the main reasons why some employees decide not to speak up. Many companies have sought to address this by adopting a ‘zero tolerance’ policy for retaliation against those who speak up, but we see fewer examples of companies taking active steps to track and prevent retaliation. This is challenging for a number of reasons; those speaking up may have chosen to remain anonymous or may not wish to engage after the case has closed. The most difficult challenge is that retaliation can be subtle and occur over a long period of time. How do you identify retaliation amongst the changing patterns of performance or social inclusion in a team?

We will be joined by Catherine Foster (Associate Director at Coca-Cola Europacific Partners) and Stewart Hughes (Head of Group Security and Investigations at SSE) who will share experiences from their own companies of how retaliation is monitored and lead a discussion on best practices we might all seek to adopt. The event will be moderated by Mark Chambers (Associate Director - Governance at IBE).

What are Business Ethics Network (BEN) meetings?

What are BEN meetings?

Our network meetings, which happen regularly throughout the year, are the pillars around which the community is built. These invitation-only events are usually focused on a specific topic and are led by a member or members of the network who candidly share their experience and pose probing questions for group discussion.

All network meetings are hosted and facilitated under the Chatham House Rule by the IBE.

Who are BEN meetings for?

These meetings are both practitioner-led and practitioner-focused, with invitations only extended to those responsible for the ethics and compliance programme in their organisation (which must have more than 250 employees). Invitees are, however, free to recommend alternates / subject-matter experts from their organisation to attend either with them, or in their place. Registrations are limited to 2 participants per organisation per meeting.

Why attend a BEN meeting?

Network meetings are a unique opportunity to join the conversation to discuss the challenges, issues and successes of embedding ethical values within your organisation, with your peers.
