PaC - Getting it right: cross profession training course for professional advisers
This course is exclusively for members of professional bodies in the accounting, legal and real estate sectors.
This training course provides practical insights to address the key ethical issues of bribery and corruption, money laundering and modern slavery. For the first time, it brings together professional advisers in the legal, accounting and real estate sectors to discuss how such issues can be tackled effectively. It helps them to develop effective solutions to safeguard their reputation and ensure that they provide a good service to their clients and to society.
It was an excellent training session, from start to finish
The course has been developed by the Institute of Business Ethics (IBE) in collaboration with Professionals against Corruption (PaC), which is a body comprised of law firms, accounting firms and real estate firms. The mission of the group is to tackle corruption by promoting integrity, transparency and accountability through research, exploring innovative solutions and new technologies.
Particularly interesting to interact with people from other professions
In this highly interactive session, participants will have the opportunity to discuss a fictional case study about the reality of the various stages the three different professions (real estate, accounting and legal) go through as part of a property transaction. They will be asked to reflect on their due diligence processes, duties and obligations and ability to spot red flags. They will need to consider whether this is a property transaction that they would want to go through with as professionals or not, before a final debrief where a panel of experts will help participants to reflect on underlying ethical implications and possible consequences of different decisions.

After completion of this training, participants will be able to:
- Have a better understanding of the other professions’ due diligence processes, including the types of checks conducted on new and existing clients. The discussion will touch on the overlaps that might exist in the current procedures, focusing on what information could be shared and how. On the other hand, participants will be able to discuss what client information has to be treated confidentially by each profession and must not be shared.
- Be more alert to behaviours that might present a high ethics risk (red flags). The case study includes examples of situations and behaviours that might be useful to consider with particular care when assessing the ethics risks of a transaction. During the training, participants will be able to discuss and reflect on such red flags.
- This training will be delivered online using Teams.
- The length of the session is 3 hours, including breaks.
- The training will be facilitated by the IBE, with the support of a panel of experts.
To encourage frank discussion amongst participants and the open sharing of ideas and experiences, this meeting will take place under the Chatham House Rule.
