Preliminary results from the 2021 survey of corporate chief executive officers (CEOs), conducted by the global consultancy Accenture in partnership with the United Nations Global Compact, were published in June.

This showed that 79% of CEOs believe that the pandemic has highlighted the need to transition to more sustainable business models. Additionally, 62% of CEOs said the pressure to act on sustainability grew significantly over the last three years since the previous survey, while 73% said they expect pressure to act on sustainability to grow significantly over the next three years.

The IBE was delighted to host a briefing on the 2021 United Nations Global Compact–Accenture CEO Study on Sustainability - Climate Leadership in the Eleventh Hour Special Edition and to explore what the findings mean for businesses generally and for ethics and leadership development functions specifically.

We were joined by Apurv Gupta, Manager of UN Affairs Sustainability Strategy for Accenture Strategy and Consulting, and Rebecca Mayfield, Group Director of Ethics & Corporate Responsibility at Meggitt. The session was chaired by David Grayson CBE, IBE's Chair of the Trustees Board.
