IBE Student Essay Competition 2006

Scandals continue to hit the business world and society has higher and higher expectations of business. This makes business ethics an increasingly important issue for organisations of all sizes. The IBE Student Essay Competition is now in its fourth year and aims to encourage the subject of Business Ethics in UK Business Schools and similar teaching departments. This is run in association with the UK branch of the European Business Ethics Network (EBEN), a network of academics teaching business ethics.

The winner of the £500 postgraduate prize was Simon Wright from the University of Nottingham for his essay on corruption. The undergraduate prize of £500 was awarded to Victoria Clark from Manchester Metropolitan University Business SChool for her essay entitled "How ethical are the moves made by McDonald's to become more corporately socially responsible?". The judges were also impressed with an essay by postgraduate Simon Henzell-Thomas from Birkbeck College for his essay Where does a firm's responsibility for its products end? The case of Caterpillar's bulldozers and decided to award a runners-up prize.
