Association for Practical and Professional Ethics

The Association was founded in 1991 with support from Indiana University and the Lilly Endowment. The Association facilitates communication and joint ventures among centres, schools, colleges, business and nonprofit organisations and individuals concerned with the interdisciplinary study and teaching of practical and professional ethics.

Australian Business Ethics Network

The Australian Business Ethics Network promotes ethical practices in business and provides a forum for ethicists to discuss and exchange ideas on teaching, training and consulting in the field of business ethics. The Ethics Forum produces occasional papers and reflections by scholars, ethicists and consultants on a range of management issues. ABEN also runs conferences and ethics events.

The Brookings Institution

The goal of Brookings activities is to improve the performance of American institutions and the quality of public policy.

Business Ethics Centre, Budapest University

The Business Ethics Centre Offers courses in business ethics and related subjects at undergraduate and post-graduate levels in addition to short courses such as 'Economics & Environmental Ethics'. The majority of courses are taught in Hungarian but some are available in English.

Business Ethics Institute of Malaysia

Formed in 1997, Business Ethics Institute of Malaysia (BEIM) is a membership organisation that aims to educate and inspire the public and private sector with regards to ethical business while fostering transparency within the marketplace through exposure of fraudulent practise. They aim to promote ethics through self-regulation on a values basis.

Business Ethics Magazine

For 15 years this has been a leading publication in the movement for greater social responsibility in business. The Magazine also offers online news reports, book reviews and details of upcoming events and conferences.


The Business Ethics Network of Africa (BEN-Africa)

BEN-Africa was formed in 1999 based on the conviction that by bringing together Africans who share an interest in the field, business ethics will be expanded on the African continent. BEN-Africa currently has members in 25 African countries. National chapters of BEN-Africa have been established in Tanzania, Nigeria, Cameroon and Kenya and a number of other countries are in the process of establishing similar national structures.

Business Ethics Research Center (BERC)

This organisation aims to achieve practical and ethical improvement in Japanese corporations. Supported by several major Japanese corporations,such as Fuji-Xerox, Toyota Motors, Tokyo Electric, Tokyo Gas, Shiseido Co., this is the first Japanese organisation which networks the ethics officers in major Japanese businesses.

Business Roundtable Institute for Corporate Ethics

The Business Roundtable Institute for Corporate Ethics is an independent stand-alone entity established in partnership with Business Roundtable—an association of 160 CEOs of leading corporations. The mission of the Institute is to embed ethics into the everyday business decision-making and practice of organizations through executive education programs, practitioner-focused research and outreach activities.

Business for Social Responsibility

Founded in 1992, Business for Social Responsibility is an international membership organisation that provides information, and offers training and advisory services relating to CSR. Collaborative and networking opportunities are also available to members through a range of initiatives and events.

Canadian Centre for Ethics and Corporate Policy

The Caux Round Table

Focused around the 'CRT Principles for Business', this organisation raises awareness of senior business leaders and others about new approaches to tackle global poverty including legal and regulatory change in developing countries to improve the environment for productive investment of foreign and domestic equity capital.

Caux Initiatives for Business

"We believe that motivation makes a difference. When individuals are motivated to do business ethically and in socially responsible ways, communities and organisations change".

Composed of local, regional, and global forums, the Caux Initiatives for Business emphasises practical tools, grounded in a moral and ethical framework. The organisation holds the annual Caux Conference for Business and Industry in Switzerland. The organisation also produces publications and conducts broad-based public relations programs to publicise their work.

The Center for Ethical Business Cultures (CEBC)

The Center for Ethical Business Cultures was founded in 1978 by leading Minnesota CEOs eager to develop their commitment to corporate citizenship. CEBC carries out research producing publications and hosting public forums in the field of business ethics and corporate citizenship as well as offering products and services to business. The center also plays a role in education through its business school affiliations.

The Center for Ethics and Social Justice

The Center for Ethics and Social Justice at Loyola University of Chicago was founded in 1991 with a mission to enhance the understanding and the practice of ethics and social justice through published research and other activities. The center shares findings through direct outreach activities and partnerships with interested groups and institutions outside the University.

The Center for the Study of Ethics in the Professions (CSEP)

Based at the Illinois Institute of Technology, CSEP was established in 1976 to promote research and teaching on practical moral problems in the professions. The first interdisciplinary center for ethics to focus specifically on the professions, CSEP is particularly well known for its work on ethics in engineering and science and in related areas of business.

Centre for Business Ethics Bentley College

Founded in 1917 as a school of accounting and finance, Bentley College now offers undergraduate and graduate programmes in business, specialising in the integration of information technology into the business curriculum. The college also offers distance education programmes.

The Centre for Ethical Orientation

"The Centre for Ethical Orientation is dedicated to the advancement of a global ethic for the global economy".

The CEO works with senior business executives, business teachers, theologians, and other interested and affected groups. The organisation offers a range of services including corporate ethical audits, ethical reputation assessments and board orientation.

Centre for Social Markets

Founded in 2000, The Centre for Social Markets (CSM) is an independent non-profit organisation operating internationally. The centre promotes responsible entrepreneurship, ethics and accountability worldwide. With a primary geographical focus on developing and transition countries the centre also has five main work streams focussing on business, investors, workers, consumers and governance.

Central European Institute for Leadership and Ethics (CEILE)

CEILE was established in 2003. Its mission is to encourage high standards of corporate ethical behaviour and principled leadership together with the sharing of best practise. Courses and seminars are offered for middle and senior management of companies together with principled leadership courses for public servants.

Cercle d'Ethique des Affaires - Cercle Européen des Déontologues (CEA-CED)

Cercle d'Ethique des Affaires is a non-profit business network founded in Paris in 1989. The organisation draws particular attention in the business community of French speaking countries and is composed of several separate associations and departments including the Research Centre for Business Ethics and the European Ethics Officers' Association.

The Club of Rome

The Club of Rome's mission is to act as a global catalyst of change that is free of any political, ideological or business interest. The Club contributes to the solution of what it calls the 'world problematique'; a complex set of the most crucial problems facing humanity - political, social, economic, technological, environmental, psychological and cultural.

The Coalition for Environmentally Responsible Economies

The CERES Coalition is a network of over 80 organisations including environmental groups, investors, advisors and analysts, public interest and community groups.
CERES began its work in 1988 as a result of an alliance between investment firms and leading environmentalists trying to find ways in which investment dollars could promote a healthy environment. Companies involved have committed to continuous environmental improvement by endorsing the CERES Principles; a ten-point code of environmental conduct.

Commercial Alert

Commercial Alert is a non-profit organisation established under the U.S. tax code. The organisations mission is to keep the commercial culture within its proper sphere, and to prevent it from exploiting children and subverting the higher values of family, community, environmental integrity and democracy.

The Conference Board

The Conference Board is a global, independent membership organisation that creates and disseminates knowledge about management and the marketplace to help businesses strengthen their performance and better serve society. The board conducts research and analysis, convenes conferences, and produces publications. The Boards work focuses on bringing executives together to learn from one another.

Consumers International (CI)

Consumers International was founded in 1960 as the International Organisation of Consumers Unions (IOCU) by a group of national consumer organisations. This independent organisation supports links and represents consumer groups and agencies all over the world. It has a membership of over 250 organisations in 115 countries and strives to promote a fairer society through defending the rights of all consumers, especially the poor, marginalised and disadvantaged.

The Copenhagen Centre

The Copenhagen Centre (TCC) is an autonomous, international institution established and funded by the Danish Government, following the 1995 UN World Summit for Social Development. The centre promotes corporate social responsibility and cross sector partnerships and has undertaken several collaborative projects with AccountAbility.

The Corporate Board

The Corporate Board, now in its 25th year, is a leading American journal of corporate governance. The journal provides information to corporate directors and senior officers on a variety of corporate governance topics. The Corporate Board also contains articles written by directors of major corporations, chairmen, chief executives, legal and financial advisors.

Corporate Social Responsibility Europe CSR Europe is a non-profit organisation that promotes corporate social responsibility.
This organisation has a strong focus on Stakeholder dialogue working to bring together businesses with experts from the non-business world or from business sectors that are unaccustomed to communicating with each other. CSR Europe has a strong relationship with the European Commission and is forum members of the European Commission's Multi Stakeholder Forum on CSR.
The Council for Ethics in Economics

The Council for Ethics in Economics is a worldwide association of leaders in business, education, and other professions working together to strengthen ethics within business and economic life. The Council identifies and responds to issues important for ethical economic practices and assists in the resolution of these issues through its work.

The Council of Europe

The Council of Europe is the continent's oldest political organisation. Founded in 1949 the Council was set up to defend human rights, parliamentary democracy and the rule of law; to develop continent-wide agreements to standardise member countries' social and legal practices; and to promote awareness of a European identity based on shared values that cut across different cultures.

Directors & Boards
Directors & Boards was founded in 1976, just as the Securities & Exchange Commission was taking an aggressive stance on the accountabilities of corporate boards of directors. Directors & Boards is a quarterly journal dedicated to the topics of leadership and corporate governance. Its readers include board chairmen, CEOs and members of senior management, corporate board members, and board advisers.
The E. F. Schumacher Society

The Schumacher Society is an educational non-profit organisation founded in 1980 by Robert Swann. Building on a concept of 'decentralism', the society's programmes aim to demonstrate that both social and environmental sustainability can be achieved by applying the values of human-scale communities and respect for the natural environment to economic issues.

ETHIBEL

ETHIBEL is an independent consultancy agency for socially responsible investments that advices banks and brokers offering ethical savings accounts and investment funds. ETHIBEL has its own European quality label and regularly acts as an independent control body to certify other socially profiled products. The company "Stock at Stake" operates alongside the not-for-profit organisation ETHIBEL. STOCK at STAKE specialises in the social and ethical screening of companies and organisations.

Ethics and Public Policy Centre

The Ethics and Public Policy Center was established in 1976 to clarify and reinforce the bond between the Judeo-Christian moral tradition and the public debate over domestic and foreign policy issues. Its program includes research and publications, conferences and events. The Centre also offers an internship programme for undergraduate and graduate students.

Ethics Institute of South Africa

EthicSA is an independent, nonpartisan, not-for-profit organisation. Incorporated in 1999, EthicSA was born out of a joint initiative by the South African Medical Association (SAMA) and The Merck Company Foundation. The organisation aims to promote and advance ethical practices in South Africa - in the professions, business, public policy, and among individuals. It serves as a resource, facilitates ethics initiatives, and works in partnerships with private and public institutions, as well as individuals.

Ethics Officers Association Founded in 1992, the Ethics Officer Association (EOA) is the professional association for managers of ethics, compliance and business conduct programs. The organisation is non-consulting and not-for-profit and is currently leading an effort to develop a Business Conduct Management System Standard through the International Standards Organisation (ISO) process.
Ethics Resource Center

"The Ethics Resource Center (ERC) is a non-profit, non-partisan educational organisation whose vision is a world where individuals and organisations act with integrity".

The ERC tries to achieve its aims through inspiring action in others at an individual and organisational level with a strong emphasis on education and partnership formation.

Ethikos

Ethikos is a bi-monthly publication that examines ethical and compliance issues in business. In January 1998, Ethikos and Corporate Conduct Quarterly, the Rutgers University-based compliance journal, combined operations under the Ethikos name. In its 17th year, Ethikos takes a unique case-study approach to corporate ethics and compliance programs.

The European Business Campaign on Corporate Social Responsibility The European Business Campaign on CSR has set itself the goal of mobilising 500,000 business people and partners to integrate CSR into their core business by 2005. The campaign organises events and products to get its message across and stimulate dialogue.
European Business Ethics Network European Business Ethics Network (EBEN) is a not-for-profit association whose members include business people, consultants, public sector managers, academics and students. The organisation works to promote values-based management, ethical leadership and increased awareness about companies' responsibility in society and has a strong 'events' focus in this regard.
European Federation of Employee Ownership (EFES)

EFES' objective is to act as the European umbrella organisation of companies, trade unions, researchers and institutions that are looking to promote employee ownership and participation. The Federation is setting up a European centre for information and advice, providing services such as training, representation and lobbying to its members. It also organises many events and meetings in Europe to promote and develop the participation of employee owners.

The Foundation of Economic Trends

The Foundation on Economic Trends (FOET) was established in 1977 and is based in Washington D.C. The foundation has been active in both national and international public policy issues, particularly around the environment, the economy, and biotechnology. The organisations mission is to examine emerging trends in science and technology and their impacts on the environment, the economy, culture and society.

German Business Ethics Network (DNWE)

This German network was founded in May 1993 and now links academics, practitioners and students to foster a constructive dialogue on Business Ethics. Currently there are about 500 registered members including representatives from business, politics, the church, and the scientific community. The DNWE is a national chapter of the European Business Ethics Network (EBEN).

Global Environmental Management Initiative (GEMI)

The Global Environmental Management Initiative (GEMI) is a non-profit organisation of leading companies dedicated to fostering environmental, health and safety excellence, and corporate citizenship through the sharing of tools and information.

The Global Reporting Initiative

The Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) is a multi-stakeholder process and independent institution whose mission is to develop and disseminate globally applicable Sustainability Reporting Guidelines. These guidelines are for voluntary use by organisations for reporting on the economic, environmental, and social dimensions of their activities, products, and services. Started in 1997 by CERES, the GRI became independent in 2002; it is an official collaborating centre of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and also works in cooperation with Global Compact.

Global Sullivan Principles
In 1977, Reverend Sullivan developed the Sullivan Principles - a code of conduct for human rights and equal opportunities for companies operating in South Africa. The Sullivan Principles are acknowledged to have been one of the most effective efforts to end discrimination against blacks in the workplace in South Africa, and to have contributed to the dismantling of apartheid. To further expand human rights and economic development to all communities, Reverend Sullivan created the Global Sullivan Principles of Social Responsibility in 1997.

Global Witness is a non-governmental investigative organisation working to expose the link between natural resource exploitation and human rights abuses. Global Witness seeks to gather and disseminate information regarding environmental exploitation and its social, ecological and economic effects.

Greenleaf Center for Servant-Leadership

The Greenleaf Center is an international, not-for-profit institution, originally founded in 1964 by Robert K. Greenleaf as the Center for Applied Ethics, Inc. The Center's mission is to fundamentally improve the caring and quality of all institutions through a new approach to leadership, structure, and decision making - 'servant-leadership'. Servant-leadership emphasises increased service to others; a holistic approach to work; promoting a sense of community; and the sharing of power in decision making.

Hong Kong Ethics Development Centre

The Hong Kong Ethics Development Centre was set up in 1995 following a consensus reached at Hong Kong's first ever 'Conference on Business Ethics' in 1994. The Centre is a non-profit making organisation established under the auspices of Hong Kong's Independent Commission Against Corruption Community.

Human Rights Watch

Human Rights Watch is an independent, nongovernmental organisation, supported by contributions from private individuals and foundations worldwide. Human Rights Watch is the largest human rights organisation based in the United States. The organisation started in 1978 as Helsinki Watch to monitor the compliance of Soviet bloc countries with the human rights provisions of the landmark Helsinki Accords. The organisation grew to cover other regions of the world, until all the "Watch" committees were united in 1988 to form Human Rights Watch.

Infact

Since 1977, Infact has been exposing life-threatening abuses by transnational corporations and organising successful grassroots campaigns to hold corporations accountable to consumers and society at large. Infact is a non-profit, national membership organisation actively working to challenge to unwarranted corporate influence.

Institute of Global Ethics

"Our mission is to promote ethical behaviour in individuals, institutions, and nations through research, public discourse, and practical action".

A non-sectarian, non-partisan, global research and educational membership organisation. The parent organisation is based in the United States with two additional trusts, one in the UK and a further organisation operating in Canada.

The International Business Ethics Institute (IBEI)

The Institute was founded in 1994 in response to the growing need for trans-nationalism in the field of business ethics. The Institute promotes business ethics and corporate responsibility through two key program areas; public awareness and dialogue about ethics issues, and company assistance in establishing effective ethics programs.

International Communications Forum

"The ICF is devoted to media ethics and freedoms of expression and information. It believes that these need to be accompanied by a high sense of responsibility and respect for every audience".

The ICF was founded by Bill Porter in 1991 and now represents a worldwide network of media individuals and organisations with a presence in 116 countries. Since 1991 there have been 22 Forums in 14 countries covering topics such as 'A Moral and Cultural Role for the Media', 'The Media-a Decisive Force in building a Free and Just Society' and 'American Media and the World Community'.

International Compliance Organisation (ICA)
The ICA is a non-profit professional organisation dedicated to the furtherance of best compliance and anti-money laundering practice in the financial services sector. The ICA seeks to transcend national boundaries by educating and supporting compliance and anti-money laundering professionals globally, through the provision of internationally recognised qualifications, member information exchange and training.
International Fairtrade Foundation (IFAT)
IFAT is the global network of Fair Trade Organisations (FTOs). Established in 1989, IFAT is composed of over 200 members in 55 countries. Members include producer co-operatives and associations, export marketing companies, importers, retailers, national and regional Fair Trade networks and financial institutions, all dedicated to the Fair Trade movement.
International Organisation of Employers (IOE)

Created in 1920, the IOE has been recognised as the only organisation at the international level that represents the interests of business in the labour and social policy fields. It consists of 136 national employer organisations from 132 countries from all over the world and aims to promote and defend the interests of employers at an international level, particularly in the International Labour Organisation (ILO). The IOE works to ensure that international labour and social policy promotes the viability of enterprises and creates an environment favourable to enterprise development and job creation.

International Labour Organisation

The International Labour Organisation is the UN specialised agency which seeks the promotion of social justice and internationally recognised human and labour rights. It was founded in 1919 by the Treaty of Versailles. The ILO formulates international standards in the form of Conventions and Recommendations setting minimum standards of basic labour rights. It also provides technical assistance and promotes the development of independent employers' and workers' organisations.

International Society of Business, Economics, and Ethics

The International Society of Business, Economics, and Ethics (ISBEE) is a world-wide professional association focusing on the study of business, economics, and ethics.
ISBEE supports a cross-disciplinary approach with the participation of both academics and practitioners. It holds conferences and programs to encourage sharing of ideas and experiences, including the World Congress of Business, Economics, and Ethics, held every four years.

Involvement and Participation Association The IPA is a not-for-profit organisation with charitable status which specialises in helping companies improve performance and productivity through employee involvement and participation. IPA provides a range of services including consultancy and training, and also conducts research into employee involvement, disseminating understanding of good practice and its benefits through regular publications.

The National Center for Employee Ownership is a private, non-profit membership and research organisation that serves as the leading source of accurate, unbiased information on employee stock ownership plans (ESOPs), employee stock options and related programs, and ownership culture.

National Cooperative Business Association (NCBA)
The NCBA is a leading national membership association representing cooperatives of all types and in all industries. Membership is open to all cooperatives and associations of co-ops. Observatoire de la Finance

Quaker Business

A network of Quakers who work mainly in 'for profit' businesses. Some are self-employed, owning and managing their own businesses. Responsible Wealth

Responsible Wealth is a national network of businesspeople, investors and affluent individuals who are among the wealthiest 5% of Americans. These individuals are concerned about growing economic inequality and have joined together to publicly address the problem. Founded in 1997, Responsible Wealth is affiliated with United for a Fair Economy (UFE), a national non-profit devoted to putting a spotlight on the dangers of excessive inequality of income and wealth in the United States.

Royal Institute of International Affairs

The Royal Institute of International Affairs (RIIA), also known as Chatham House, is one of the world's leading institutes for the analysis of international issues. RIIA is membership-based and aims to help individuals and organisations to be at the forefront of developments on the international arena.

Social Accountability International Social Accountability International (SAI) is a US based, non-profit organisation dedicated to the development, implementation and oversight of voluntary verifiable social accountability standards. They work to improve workplaces and combat sweatshops through the expansion and further development of the currently operative international workplace standard, SA8000, and its associated verification system.
The Social Investment Forum

The Society for Business Ethics (SBE)

The Society for Business Ethics is an international organisation of scholars engaged in the academic study of business ethics. Founded in 1980, SBE conducts an annual meeting for the presentation of research, and issues a newsletter with information of interest to members. The journal Business Ethics Quarterly (BEQ) is published by the Society for the dissemination of the most important scholarship in the field, along with other publications, including the Ruffin Lecture Series.

The Society of Corporate Compliance & Ethics (SCCE) SCCE is an international, non-profit organization solely dedicated to improving the quality of corporate governance, compliance and ethics. SCCE’s roles include: facilitating the development and maintenance of compliance programs; providing a forum for understanding the complicated compliance environment; and offering tools, resources and educational opportunities for those involved with compliance.

St James Ethics Centre

St James Ethics Centre is a fully independent not-for-profit organisation which provides a non-judgemental forum for the promotion and exploration of ethics and ethical decision-making. The Centre works with business, professions, community groups, governments and individuals aiming to encourage and assist individuals and organisations to include the ethical dimension in their daily lives.

The State of the World Forum

State of the World Forum was founded in 1995 with the purpose of working with partners worldwide in the search for solutions to critical global challenges. The forum has emerged as a global coalition of leaders and institutions willing to work together. Annual conferences often develop into ongoing Forum projects or strategic initiatives that address pressing global issues.

Transparency International (TI)

An international non-governmental organisation devoted to combating corruption, and forming a coalition between civil society, business, and governments. TI is made up of a secretariat and national chapters and works both at the national and international level to curb both the supply and demand of corruption. Chapters are active in more than 90 countries world-wide, each adapting to the specific conditions of their country of location. The Secretariat supports the national chapters in their efforts and facilitates exchanges of information within the network

The Trinity Forum

The Trinity Forum is a leadership academy that helps leaders engage the key issues of their personal and public lives in the context of faith. Founded in 1991 as a non-profit organisation, it fosters strategic programs and publications that further its mission: 'to contribute to the transformation and renewal of society through the transformation and renewal of leaders'.

United Nations Global Compact In an address to The World Economic Forum on 31 January 1999, Kofi Annan challenged business leaders to join an international initiative - the Global Compact - that would bring companies together with UN agencies, labour and civil society to support nine principles in the areas of human rights, labour and the environment. Operational in 2000 the Global Compact seeks to advance responsible corporate citizenship so that business can be part of the solution to the challenges of globalisation.
UNIAPAC (International Christian Union of Business Executives)

Founded in 1931, UNIAPAC is a network of people with a dual commitment - to business and the Christian faith. UNIAPAC members are managers, board members and shareholders professionally involved in global corporations, national companies and SMEs.

Verité

Verité is an independent, non-profit social auditing and research organisation established in 1995. This organisation aims to ensure safe, fair and legal working conditions. Where Verité auditors identify exploitation of workers or health and safety violations in the workplace, they develop concrete steps to correct them through a combination of training for management and workers, education programs and remediation programs. With experience and links with NGOs in over 65 countries, Verité has earned the respect of corporations, workers, labor unions and advocacy groups internationally.

The World Business Academy

The World Business Academy was founded in 1987 as a result of discussions conducted by the Stanford Research Institute (SRI) on the role and responsibility of business in relation to today's moral, environmental and social dilemmas. A small group emerged from these meetings to create a research and education institution - the World Business Academy, to help the global business community understand and participate in the new constructive role of business in society.

World Business Council for Sustainable Development

The WBCSD is a coalition of 170 international companies drawn from 35 countries and more than 20 major industrial sectors, involving some 1,000 business leaders globally. The Council also comprises a Regional Network of 45 national and regional partner organisations - called Business Councils for Sustainable Development (BCSDs) - mostly located in developing countries.

The Council began in 1991 as the Business Council for Sustainable Development and in 1995 merged with the World Industry Council for the Environment (WICE) setting up a permanent base in Geneva as the WBCSD.

World Economic Forum

The World Economic Forum is the foremost global community of business, political, intellectual and other leaders of society committed to improving the state of the world. The Forum is an independent international organisation incorporated as a Swiss not-for-profit foundation and has NGO consultative status with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations.

The Zicklin Centre for Business Ethics Research

The Carol and Lawrence Zicklin Center for Business Ethics Research was established in 1997. The mission of the Center is to sponsor and disseminate leading edge research on critical topics in business ethics. The Center's broad research focus includes global business ethics, corporate governance, social contracts, deception, disclosure, bribery and corruption.
