IBE Masterclass 2: Building a Speak Up Culture
This one day workshop will assist companies in building a speak up culture within their organisation.

One of the major challenges in business ethics today is creating a safe environment where employees can raise concerns about possible misconduct and wrongdoing.

Despite the proliferation of helplines and ethics offices, creating a safe environment where employees can raise concerns about possible misconduct without experiencing retaliation is still one of the least well developed elements of most business ethics programmes. This course will address these challenging questions:
  • What are the latest strategies and approaches to encourage employees globally to raise concerns?
  • How can organisations more effectively handle and resolve employees' misconduct reports?
  • How can companies reduce perceptions of retaliation?
This one day masterclass gives participants an understanding of:
  • How to develop an open and non-retaliatory workplace environment
  • How to develop and communicate effective policies on raising concerns
  • How to develop and communicate effective non-retaliation policies
  • How to train employees on the importance of raising concerns
  • How to train managers on how to receive and respond to reports of misconduct
  • How to structure and communicate reporting channels globally
  • How to avoid common cultural pitfalls when dealing the issues of reporting misconduct
  • How to develop ongoing communication strategies on raising concerns
This masterlcass is appropriate for:
  • Those who want to improve communications, and particularly misconduct communications, within their firm.
  • Ethics practitioners who want to update their understanding or who are new to their role
  • Managers, including senior managers who want to improve their own skills and the skills of company management generally in receiving and responding to misconduct reports.
  • Other professionals, such as Audit or Human Resources, who are concerned with open communications about misconduct and with reducing possible retaliation.
The facilitator for this masterclass workshop is Lori Tansey Martens, Director of International Business Ethics Institute, Washington DC.
