A new book to provide leadership in the field of integrity
and ethics for the securities and investment community is
published today by the Securities & Investment Institute
(SII) in association with the Institute of Business Ethics
and the Guild of International Bankers.
"Integrity At Work" in Financial Services will
be launched on 5th June at the Mansion House by Scott Dobbie,
Chairman of SII, Lord George of St Tudy and Alderman Sir David
Brewer.
The SII's Integrity & Ethics Committee, of which Philippa
Foster Back, Director of the IBE is a member together with
other senior practitioners from the financial industry and
distinguished lay members, has created a series of case studies,
based on personal experience, which have been used to explore
and explain a variety of ethical dilemmas. These have been
published in Securities & Investment Review, the SII members'
magazine, under the heading "Grey Matters" to reflect
that the optimum solution is seldom black or white.
SII has taken a number of these scenarios, which it considers
best illustrate this theme and updated them where necessary.
David Lascelles provides a commentary and draws on his interviews
with Lord George, Stephen Green and Mark Anson, all of whom
were speakers at the Institute's annual ethics lecture. Simon
Webley, Research Director of the Institute of Business Ethics,
has contributed a review of what other companies are doing
in the field.
"The IBE is delighted to have worked with the SII on
this publication. The scenarios in the book bring to the forefront
some of the ethical issues which arise when doing business.
There are no black and white answers in ethics, and by stimulating
debate, this book will help others deal with ethical dilemmas
when they arise," said Philippa Foster Back OBE.
